This quote can be taken in both the literal and the mental/emotional way. When we've truly healed the world becomes refreshed and anew to our view.
The other day I drove down a street that I used to traverse very often and was taken aback when I didn't recognize where I was for awhile. I hadn't been on that particular street for a decade. My life was so different back then as well. This road was one that I used to take often to see the man that I was currently dating and since the relationship was fairly new, times were still good for us. When I realized this was the street, it did bring back a flood of memories but the interesting thing was that even though that particular relationship was not what I truly needed in my life, I realized how much my life had changed and how much I have grown since then. As with a majority of my past, I've healed my inner scars that I was suffering with at the time, so I truly was able to enjoy this trip down "memory lane" and see the street in a whole new light.
Since that healing inner work has been completed, those old hurts and pains are no longer able to affect me adversely. I have made peace with who I was then and the choices I made because I was that person. We should be gentle and remind ourselves that we truly can only do the best we know how to do, we will sometimes fail even in doing that. But if we acknowledge that, and forgive ourselves for any ways in which we believe we failed, we can see the lesson that was meant for us to learn through this situation. That in and of itself is a huge success. It truly is through our challenges and supposed failings and mistakes that we learn the lessons we were sent here to learn.
