When going through our challenges, we're often so devastated by hurt, pain, guilt, shame, resentments, etc. that we just want them gone. So often we will just do whatever it takes necessary to free ourselves of that. This just leads to temporary resolution and those issues will pop up later until we actually face the root cause of them.
I know this may be a bit difficult to understand because we want to think that these emotions are the cause, but in reality they are only trigger a deeper feeling in us that needs resolution. Emotions are our temporary reaction to what is currently happening and can be very intense but are fleeting. While our feelings form a final emotional conclusion about life, how to live it, and more importantly, how to survive physically and mentally in a world of chaos. They are low-key, stable and sustained over time. For example, when you see a baby you may feel joy which will dissipate after the baby is no longer around. However, this joy may have been triggered because of your happiness that you've found in raising your own children or just the reminder that life is a blessing, etc.
So when you're facing the dark times you need to honor and respect the emotions because they've brought awareness to an issue that needs resolution. And then we need to ask and explore ourselves to find the underlying feeling(s) that was triggered with this emotion. Was it a past experience that made us feel worry, bitterness, pain, etc. If that feeling (pain body) is still triggered then some inner work is likely needed to comfort and heal that issue, so you can progress more positively in life. You will often see this with people who suffer from PTSD, abuse survivors, trauma, etc. because it was a very real and super charged event in the past that led to these deep recessed emotions. And those type of issues need years and years of work to heal and move on.
Be brave enough, during these challenging times not only to explore the emotions surrounding the issue, but also to be vulnerable enough to delve into the feelings that are triggered and the events surrounding them. It is difficult work for sure, but when you've been successful with some healing in that regard, you can truly live a happier life.
